Overview
Located on the grounds of the imposing Punakha Dzong, the Punakha Tshechu Festival is a brilliant spectacle that is beautifully documented on the Punakha Tshechu Festival Tour. Tshechu, or festival, is held in honor of Guru Rinpoche, the saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan. Colorful mask dances are a staple of these celebrations, and each day brings a new set of festivities and reenactments. The locals' trust in these celebrations is strong, so people travel from far and wide to participate. One of the finest ways to experience the vibrant ancient culture of the Dragon Kingdom is to take part in one of its many festivals. Flying through some of the world's most impressive mountain ranges on the way to Paro's verdant valley is a highlight of this trip. Then, after a beautiful drive, you'll arrive in Thimphu, the little capital, and after visiting the sights there, you'll continue on to Punakha, the historic capital and festival site. Take the famous climb up to the Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as the "Tiger's Nest," at the end of the tour.
